Dear Rabbi Lamm: I received your telegram on March 26, at 10:30 a.m. and the check of $250 from the Jewish Center Torah Society, today, at about the same time. The acknowledgment receipt, wherein I have made a specific mention of the employment of the sum, is attached herewith. I will discuss this matter in full when I see you in New York. I am deeply grateful for your kindness which prompted you to make the amount of little and inconvenient expense, and your timely help was much appreciated by us in making the necessary arrangements. I sincerely hope you will excuse me for that. Please convey my thanks and good wishes to Mr. Miss Feinstein and the other members of the Society for their help and goodwill, and kindly keep a share aside for yourself. I wish you, Mrs. Lamm and children all the best and very happy Seder. With sincere thanks, cordially, [signature].

Letter to Moses Feuerstein about Correspondence on the Status of the Bene Israel (1961)

Dear Moe: Enclosed you will find my correspondence with Rabbi Sherer of the Agudah. This should give you some idea of the explosive, and potentially scandalized situation which is now being created in Israel. I talked to Dr. Weiss this morning and urged him to cable Rabbi Nissim and Unterman. I also asked Rabbi Charles Weinberg to send cables to these two people encouraging them to stand fast against all pressure to change their decision.We are to meet, p.G., on December 6th. I feel we may have to take very decisive action, I therein agreeing to Rabbi Ika going at once, or producing someone from the States. There is very little that can be done until then, and even then it may be necessary for someone to be in Israel to investigate the whole thing at first hand.Sincerely yours,RABBI NORMAN LAMM

Letter to Moses Feuerstein about Critical Situation of Indian Jewry (1964)

Dear Moe: The Indian situation is much too extensive to be discussed over long distance telephone. We are now heading to a point where, I fear, we shall have to "fish or cut bait." I would suggest that when you see Dr. Weiss next you receive from him an intensive report, and after that we may have to meet with the Overseas Comission for final decision.
