Dear Moe: I talked to Dr. Gaon about the trip to India, but he certainly cannot make it before April or May, and even then it is questionable. Subsequently I called Rabbi Charles Weinberg, and he will let me know within a week or so if he can go within five or six weeks. Before that it is impossible for him to leave. Frankly, if Rabbi Jung were in full health and I were not committed to a large number of speaking engagements, I would take the next plane myself and straighten out the situation insofar as it lends itself to correction. Dear Moe: I did not want to call you personally about the Indian situation, as you had requested of me, until you read the enclosed letter, as well as the photocopy of Jhirad’s letter of the same date to Dr. Weiss, which the latter is sending to you. I think that the situation is extremely delicate, and threatens to deteriorate unless someone with a strong hand is present on the spot when the Israeli Rabbis arrive. Letter to Moses Feuerstein about Critical Situation of Indian Jewry (1964)

Dear Moe: The Indian situation is much too extensive to be discussed over long distance telephone. We are now heading to a point where, I fear, we shall have to "fish or cut bait." I would suggest that when you see Dr. Weiss next you receive from him an intensive report, and after that we may have to meet with the Overseas Comission for final decision.
