Dear Mr. Levine: In keeping with our conversation of yesterday, December 13, 1967, I am sending you enclosed a check for $250 In complete payment of the outstanding tuition fee owed by [redacted] for his daughter [redacted], who was graduated last year from the Girls High School in Brooklyn. Letter to the Memorial Foundation of Jewish Culture Recommending Doctoral Student's Grant Application (1972)

Gentlemen: I am sending you enclosed the biographical sketch of [redacted] who is anxious to obtain a grant to study for his doctorate in Yale. I shall be writing to the applicant, advising him to file a formal application with the Foundation. I appreciate that the deadline has passed for grants for 1972–1973, but this is a special case in that the applicant is a Yemenite. Considering the paucity of Oriental Jewish scholars in Israel, and the social and political tensions about this question, it may perhaps be wise to waive your formal rules in this case.
