Dear Chief Adebo: It is a week since I have returned from our Interreligious Peace Colloquium in Bellagio, and I am still enjoying the after-glow of that most impressive conference. I wanted you to know that of the many warm recollections I have of the many friends I made, I cherish the short while we spent together and the opportunity I had to get to know you. I hope and pray that in the course of the years we shall have many opportunities to meet again. I suppose that the chances of your coming to New York are greater than mine coming to Nigeria, so do let me invite you to call upon me should the occasion arise that you will be visiting the United States. Once again, it was a pleasure to meet you, and do accept all my best wishes for success in all your endeavors. Cordially yours, Rabbi Norman Lamm

Exchange with Dr. Al-Nowaihi about the Interreligious Peace Colloquium (1975)

It is just a bit over a week that I have returned from Bellagio, and I am still basking in the after-glow of that conference. My only regret is that I was not able to stay for the full course of the Colloquium. I do want you to know, quite personally, how grateful I am for the opportunity to get to know you. It was truly one of the high points of my stay in Italy. I shall never forget the eminent sense of fairness which you displayed in your remarks during the session that I read my paper. I wish that circumstances would permit us to develop our friendship face-to-face. Should you ever plan to be in the United States and visit New York, do let me know so that we might meet again. I do come to the Middle East occasionally, but I suppose that circumstances such as they are now would not permit me to visit with you. Dear Dr. Askari: It is just over a week that I have returned from our conference in Bellagio, and I am still basking in its after-glow. I wanted you to know how very much I cherish the opportunity to meet and get to know you. I am pleased that our exchange was an open and honest one, and I trust that it contributed to greater understanding and insight. I was told that the last two days of the conference kept on getting even better, and I am genuinely sorry that I had to miss them. I do hope that circumstances will permit us to meet again.
