Dear Rabbi Lamm, Shalom. I really do not know what you would think of me for not replying your kind letter of March 31, 1971. Kindly excuse me and accept my apology for this abnormal delay, which is due to my sickness. I was down with severe attack of chronic Bronchitis, which used to worry me a lot. I am now somewhat better and I am trying to push through all my pending letters. I am still under doctor treatment due to this attack. It seems that my heart is become weak. Doctor has prescribed me "Herzolan" heart tonic and considers that I have to take Resdonal tablets, one in the morning & one in the evening. I have to go again for a check to Doctor on 26th July. I am told not to walk much or exert myself. I have curtailed my activities due to my sickness. Well God is merciful. I have full faith in "EL ELOHAI ISRAEL," Lord God of Israel. He will look after me & have His mercy on me. Amen.During Passover I enjoyed my prayers through your Prayer Book which you had sent me some time back. I understand the meaning of the prayers since there is also English side by side with Hebrew. I thank you again for your kind gift of those prayer books really. I am much obliged & thankful to you.I am a bit weak, hence I close my letter with kind regards and good wishes to you & your family. My wife joins as same.Yours sincerely,E.J. Exchange with R. Gotthold about the Chief Rabbinate's Decision on the Bene Israel (1961)

Dear Rabbi Lamm, When I received your letter I knew it was a rather hopeless cause. The resolution had been railroaded through, Rabbi Reuven Katz not attending out of protest. Since certain circles (Agudah) would like to make political hay out of it, I was told that whatever appeared in the press is all that will be published. Instructions to the rabbis how to handle Benai Israel applicants have not been issued yet. Neither the text of the resolution nor the directive. I doubt whether he’ll rescind it, though pressure is brought to bear on him and others. As soon as anything further will develop, I’ll let you know.

Letter to Abraham Jhirad Requesting Updates on Indian Jewry and the Bene Israel (1968)

Dear Abraham: It is a long, long time since we have corresponded. I remember with a pang of regret that several years ago I had written a number of letters to you which remained unanswered. Nevertheless, I was delighted to receive a copy of your letter of last June to Dr. Samson Weiss in which you sent regards to me and sent along an amulet for my "collection." I am most anxious to know of your personal progress, as well as of the general conditions of the B'nai Israel in Bombay, with whom I have been out of touch for some time now. I understand that you were in Israel for several weeks and I hope you enjoyed them as almost everyone does.
