Dear Rabbi, Pardon me for the prolonged silence on my part. Various matters kept me extremely busy these last few months, although I have been on leave. With this, I have enclosed a copy of my letter to Dr. Weiss, which is self-explanatory. Our Union is making steady but extremely sound and worthy progress and I trust that your guidance shall keep us on the right path. There has been no further development with regards to the absorption of the boy in the Yeshiva University. It will be appreciated if the University communicates a firm decision in the matter.I understand that you were on a tour of Europe recently. When do you expect to visit us again?I have seen the correspondence exchanged between you and Mr. Isaiah Shapurkar, and in my humble opinion you have rendered the position very clear and simple. Dear Mr. Jhirad, It gives me great pleasure to inform you that the Joint Overseas Commission of the Orthodox Union, at its last meeting, discussed in great detail the various needs of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of India, as they are stated in the communications we received from your good self and Mr. Penkar during the last several months. It was decided to approve and support the following expenditures: (1) The continued publication of Mebasser.The continuation and the possible increase of the Hebrew classes you have arranged in cooperation with the Jewish Agency.The project which we would like to see enlarged to a greater number of participants.We would also very much like you to accept officially the position of the Director of the UOJCI, as discussed in your correspondence with Rabbi Norman Lamm.In order to facilitate the above, we shall send to the UOJCI the necessary funds which we estimate to be \$1,700 for the year 1961. Our first payment of \$500 is enclosed. It would be helpful if you could send us a brief budgetary statement containing the expected 1961 expenses for *Mebasser*, the classes, and the camp, also including your own remuneration. This statement should also contain the amount your organization expects to raise locally and the deficit to be defrayed by us.It was furthermore decided that we shall contact Mr. Joseph Grossman concerning the training of teachers in the Holy Land. Mr. Grossman has been in contact, by correspondence, with Rabbi Leo Jung concerning this matter, and our Commission has, in principle, agreed to pay the required travel expenses from India to Israel for at least three additional students. Exchange with Abraham Jhirad about the Visit of Israeli Rabbis to India (1963)

Dear Dr. Weiss, It is always so encouraging to receive your communications that delay causes untold anxiety. I can well realise the busy time you must have because of your high office and especially before, during and after the National Convention of U.O.J.C.A., which proudly embraces the majority of congregations in U.S.A. and Canada. For my people, I am grateful that you show such keen interest in our endeavour to hold fast to Traditional Judaism.The audited receipts and payments statement for the year ended 1962, adopted at the meeting of the Union on February 11, 1963, together with the budget, is enclosed herewith. The closing balance represents ₹5600/- to be paid to the Jewish Agency, ₹525/- to the Beth El Synagogue, Panvel, and the balance being education fund for the poor students of villages.From the expenditure you will notice that we have tried to keep the expenses in all respects very low. Last year we ordered only 1500 copies of *Mebasser* and there were no special issues. If the full sanctioned amount was made available to us, office equipment could have been purchased. I have included the amount necessary for the travel expenses to the Konkan, etc., in the budget. We look forward to the Overseas Commission accepting the same in full and remitting the balance of the sanctioned amount immediately.The problem in Israel is still smouldering, and you cannot but expect the interested parties taking advantage of the situation to further their own ends. It is not so much the officers of the Union whom we have to make understand the efforts made by the Orthodox Section of World Jewry, but the masses, of whom many have one-track minds. We hope and pray that your sincere efforts accomplish the desired end.Your very important communication was delivered into my hands at a very opportune moment.
